Ookla speed test report: These countries have the fastest internet in 2023 so far

Ookla, the company specializing in internet speed analytics, has recently released its Q1 2023 internet performance report. The report offers an overview of the median internet speeds across the world, including fixed broadband and mobile internet categories.

In terms of fixed broadband, the report records a global median download speed of 79 Mbps and an upload speed of 34.92 Mbps, with a latency of 9ms. Countries such as Singapore, UAE, Chile, China, and Denmark occupy the top five positions for the fastest fixed broadband.

As for mobile internet, the global median download speed is 41.54 Mbps, while the upload speed is 10.42 Mbps with a latency of 28ms. UAE, Qatar, Norway, Kuwait, and Demark hold the top five positions for the highest median mobile download speeds.

The report also features the internet performance of individual cities, with Beijing ranking as the city with the fastest fixed broadband median speed of 264.92 Mbps and 9ms latency. In the mobile category, Ar-Rayyan, Qatar, has the highest median speed of 223.87 Mbps and 18ms latency, moving up nine positions from its previous position in Q4 2022.

When it comes to device-specific numbers, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold4 took the top two spots in the U.S., followed by the Pixel 7 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The report also reveals that Samsung has the fastest median mobile download speed of 91.57 Mbps in the U.S., surpassing Apple’s 76.92 Mbps.

However, the leader of mobile download speeds, UAE, has the Apple iPhone 14 models occupying the top three positions, with the S23 Ultra coming in fourth. Despite this, the report notes that there was no statistical winner during Q1 2023.
